If you liked our Winter Flower Guide on Wednesday, today we’re sharing how to use all those pretty florals to create a gorgeous Winter floral centerpiece with pops of Marsala – the Pantone 2015 color of the year! Putting together centerpieces seems daunting, but you’ll see in our easy 4 step process that when broken down, it’s actually pretty simple! Here’s how to make your own show stopping centerpiece:
What You’ll Need:
• Vase of choice (we used a vintage one we had on hand)
• Floral foam
• Floral scissors
• Flowers. Here’s what we used for this centerpiece: 1 hanging amaranthus, 4 burgundy peonies, 5 cymbidium burgundy orchids, 4 patience garden roses, 4 champagne roses, 3 magenta tulips, 3 anemones, 1 white hyacinth, 3 sprigs of lemon leaf and cedar, 1 bunch of tallow berry and 3 bunches of brazilia berry.
*Flower Tip: If you don’t have all these flowers available, Trader Joe’s or your local Whole Foods would be a good place to start. And depending where you live, you can also search your backyard to snip a few leaves or take a sprig from your Christmas tree!
Before beginning, soak your floral foam so that it retains water and feeds your flowers over time. Cut your foam down to fit your vase (see first step above for reference).
Step 1: Start with your green and fillers (like amaranthus and lemon leaf) to shape your piece together. This will help you get an idea of the overall shape of the piece. We wanted a swooping + loose piece so we went farther down the sides.
Step 2: Next, take your small focal flowers (like tulips, champagne roses and anemones) and place in your foam. Space them out as you go, you can always change their placement after.
Step 3: Then, take the big focal flowers (like peonies, garden roses and orchids) and place between your smaller focals and fillers.
Step 4: Last, add in your berries and any other last fillers to spruce up your piece. Change flowers around if you don’t like them, or fluff to finish!
Love it! If you do create your own winter floral centerpiece, we’d love to see how it turns out, so please share on Instagram along with the hashtag #GreenWeddingShoesDIY

WOW!!!. such a beautiful flowers these are. Loved it completely.
Thanks!!
How long will this last? Can we create it overnight? How do we keep it fresh?
Hi Merci! For a foam arrangement, we recommend making it the day of your event, as this style of centerpiece will not last as long as one where the flowers are sitting in water. To keep it fresh, soak your floral foam (until it sinks from saturation) so that it retains water and feeds your flowers over time. A foam arrangement should last for 8+ hours. Spritz with a spray bottle filled with cold water to refresh your arrangement every hour or every few hours, if possible, to keep it looking its best!

Such a classy piece! Love the maroon shade to it!
This is great!
I’m loving these DIY ideas to get such a great look by myself. I’ve been following a lot of vendors on social media coming up to my wedding for inspiration but the actual putting things together has proved a little harder than I thought.
Have you ever though of doing some content along the lines of this: http://farewellfiance.com/15-florists-follow-instagram that then actually breaks down some of the arrangments the florists offer into how you would go about creating the yourself.
I would find that extremely useful!
